A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has described the decision of former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi to purchase the party’s presidential nomination form as a major boost to the ADC’s growing national presence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued to journalists on Thursday, Eze said Amaechi’s entry into the presidential race had injected fresh momentum, confidence, and visibility into the party, positioning it as a stronger force within Nigeria’s political landscape.
According to him, Amaechi’s political background and experience in public service make his participation significant for the party’s future. He noted that the former Rivers State governor had previously served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, and Minister of Transportation.
Eze stated that Amaechi’s decision to seek the ADC presidential ticket represents not only a personal political move but also a sign of growing confidence in the party’s structure and ideology.
Key Highlights:
- Eze believes Amaechi’s entry has boosted the ADC’s visibility, credibility, and national relevance.
- Amaechi’s political experience — including serving as Governor of Rivers State, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, and Minister of Transportation — was highlighted as an advantage for the party.
- The move is being framed as evidence that more politicians and voters are beginning to view the ADC as a viable alternative platform.
- Eze argued that Amaechi’s influence, particularly in the South-South region, could strengthen the party’s structure and electoral prospects.
- He also suggested that Amaechi’s participation may attract technocrats, youths, and other supporters seeking alternatives to Nigeria’s dominant political parties.
He added that political observers believe the development could attract more supporters, technocrats, and young Nigerians seeking alternative political platforms ahead of the next general elections.
“Amaechi’s political influence, especially in the South-South and other strategic parts of the country, is expected to strengthen the ADC’s organisational structure and electoral prospects,” Eze said.
The ADC chieftain further argued that Amaechi’s involvement would raise the party’s national profile and reinforce its position as an emerging opposition platform.

According to him, the former minister’s decision to obtain the party’s nomination form reflects increasing public interest in alternative political movements and signals the ADC’s readiness to play a more prominent role in Nigeria’s democratic process in 2027.
Eze also highlighted what he described as Amaechi’s achievements during his tenure as governor of Rivers State, saying his administration implemented reforms across key sectors aimed at improving governance and economic development in the state.
