AITEO Cup: Kogi United secure walkover victories

Play winner between Niger Tornadoes and Heartland of Owerri

Following the withdrawal of other contenders for the Aiteo Federations Cup, in which the winner was supposed to get an automatic ticket to join Remo Stars in this year’s CAF Confederations Cup, Kogi United secured
walkover victories to the final against the winner in the crunch semi-final tie between Heartland FC of Owerri and Niger Tornadoes.

According to reports, the contending teams, including Kano Pillars, Lobi Stars, Nasarawa United, and Wikki Tourists withdrew from the tournament when NFF allotted the CAF Confederations Cup available slot to Kwara

Resultant of this withdrawal, Kogi United slated to battle Kano Pillars in the quarter-final secured a walkover victory to slate a tie in the semi-final with the winner between Nasarawa United and Wikki Tourists who both boycotted the game.

Due to the resolutions by the Solid Miners and the Tourists, Kogi United strolled into the final awaiting the winner between Niger Tornadoes and Heartland of Owerri without a ball.

In a press release by the NFF Communication Department, “Kogi United, who walked over Kano Pillars in Makurdi, were programmed to meet the winner of the clash between Wikki Tourists and Nasarawa United. Both the Solid Miners and the Tourists failed to turn up in Kaduna.

“On that score, Kogi United are through to next week’s grand finale, to play the winner of the semi-final tie between Niger Tornadoes and Heartland FC.

“Giant-killers Heartland FC of Owerri will square up with Niger Tornadoes of Minna in the first semi-final of this year’s AITEO Cup competition. The match will be held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan on Sunday, 14th August,” NFF stated.

However, the grand finale of this 2022 AITEO Cup competition, for both the men’s and women’s events, will hold at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa on Wednesday, 17th August
