  • As Isoko Mirror Newspaper Publisher launch 1st edition of Isoko Outstanding Personalities
The Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State on Project Monitoring/Audit Engr. Goodnews Agbi, Dr. Kenneth Idiodi, Amb. Joelson Igbudu, Mr Goddy Egene, Mr Amos Esiedede Iwary, Chief Godspower Omodhebor, Mr Kelvin Ubara and Isoko United Club of Nigeria amongst others bagged the Delta Pillars of Development Awards in recognition of their contributions towards the development of the society.

The event which was the 1st Edition of Isoko Outstanding Personalities launched by the publisher of Isoko Mirror Newspaper, was held at Mano Event Centre Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State.

Speaking at the event the Chief Executive Officer of FONE Media Integrated Ventures and the Publisher of Isoko Mirror Newspaper Dr Felida Essi said “What we are doing today is the launch of the first edition of Isoko Outstanding Personalities and give awards to appreciate persons who have made contributions to the development of our society.

She also called on government at all levels in Nigeria, corporate bodies and well-to-do individuals to support Isoko youths in their creative endeavours.

“We do not pretend that the first edition contains the names of all the many deserving Isoko sons and daughters who are outstanding in their own rights in what they do”.

According to her “The interest which this first has already begun to generate has put us on our toes and we have begun already to work on the second edition. We hope to be able to capture those left out in this first edition in subsequent editions and we hereby use this opportunity to request for the profile of all such personalities”.

She further said that the Delta Pillars of Development Awards was introduced to appreciate persons who have contributed to the development of society and to encourage them and others not to rest in their oars, saying that as they appreciate some today, it is her expectation that the zeal to do more will germinate within them while others emulate them, she said.

She also used the occasion to appeal to all sons and daughters of Isoko extraction to unite and come together to speak in unison in the interest of Isoko development and progress without paying too much attention to their respective individual political persuasions.

In his address at the epoch making event the chairman of the occasioned Dr. Goodnews Agbi said, “This epoch making event is special in the sense that, in Isoko nation we are having for the first time the collection of Isoko’s outstanding personalities who have distinguished themselves in their various field of endeavours”.

According to him “Isoko is a very distinct and special ethnic group, it is good that somebody took it upon herself to get a compendium of all the Isoko people who have contributed one way or the other to the development of Isoko nation and put them in a book”.

He noted that, if it was other type of social gathering in Isoko the hall would have been full to the brim but when it comes to intellectual activities majority of the prominent Isoko’s are always absent from such events, noting that their absenteeism is something the Isoko nation need to work on.

He further emphasized that intellectual activities are something the Isoko need to encourage seriously, stating that the Yoruba’s are in the forefront of all endeavours in Nigeria as a result of their intellectual capacity.

“If you go to the oil sector that will own in Isoko, the Yoruba’s are more employed than us. This event should be a starting point for the Isoko people to put their house in order to start encouraging education.
