The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described the 10.99 million delegate votes recorded for President Bola Tinubu in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary as an “unbelievable concoction,” warning that the figures could signal a dangerous precedent ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Key Highlights:
The party argued that the outcome of the primary election amounts to a “prelude to rigging,,” insisting that it raises serious concerns about the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process going forward.
In a statement issued by the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party said it found it “bizarre” that such a figure could be announced in what it described as a tightly controlled party primary process.
It further warned that the development should not be dismissed as a mere statistical anomaly, alleging that it may be part of a broader attempt to “condition Nigerians for the kind of fantastic rigging being planned by the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.”
The ADC also criticised Tinubu’s recent remarks about opposition parties, describing them as self-serving and insensitive to the country’s worsening economic and social conditions.
Responding to the president’s comments during his acceptance speech as APC candidate, the party accused the administration of presiding over one of the most difficult periods in Nigeria’s democratic history.
It alleged that under the current government, economic hardship has deepened, insecurity has worsened, and millions of Nigerians are facing increasing levels of poverty and food insecurity.
According to the statement, Nigeria is currently experiencing rising inflation, declining purchasing power, and widespread insecurity that has forced many farming communities to abandon their livelihoods.
The party also cited international projections warning that tens of millions of Nigerians could face severe food and nutrition insecurity in the coming year if urgent steps are not taken.
It further claimed that over 2.3 million Nigerians remain displaced due to violence, particularly in parts of the North West and North Central regions.

The ADC maintained that the opposition was not responsible for the country’s current challenges, insisting instead that Nigerians are directly feeling the impact of what it called failed economic policies and governance lapses.
“The opposition did not create the hunger in the land. The opposition did not destroy the value of the naira. The opposition did not create the insecurity that has turned farming communities into killing fields,” the party stated.
It added that Nigerians are now demanding accountability and practical solutions to issues such as food inflation, insecurity, unemployment, and economic instability.
The party concluded that Nigeria requires competent and compassionate leadership capable of reversing the current trend, warning that continued reliance on what it described as poor governance would only deepen national hardship.
“Nigerians deserve competent leadership, compassionate governance, and a government that understands that power exists to improve lives, not merely to retain control,” the statement added.
