A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, has sentenced a motorist, Abubakar Halilu, to three weeks in prison for multiple traffic offences, including assaulting a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) marshal on duty.
Motorist Convicted Over Traffic Offences
Halilu was convicted after being arraigned on charges bordering on dangerous driving, driving licence violation, overloading, assault on an FRSC marshal, failure to use a seatbelt and resisting arrest.

The FRSC said Halilu was arrested on Monday, September 14, 2026, during a Mobile Court operation at the Life Camp Unit Command in Abuja.
According to the Corps’ National Spokesperson, Osondu Ohaeri, Halilu was driving a Mitsubishi vehicle when he was apprehended for allegedly committing the traffic offences.

The FRSC alleged that the motorist assaulted a marshal while resisting arrest, leading to his subsequent prosecution before the court.
Court Sentences Abuja Motorist to Three Weeks
Delivering judgment, Magistrate Theresa found Halilu guilty and sentenced him to three weeks at the Suleja Correctional Centre, with an option of a ₦30,000 fine.
The FRSC said the judgment reinforced the need for motorists to respect lawful traffic enforcement procedures.
The Corps warned that its personnel would not tolerate violence, obstruction or resistance while carrying out their official duties.
FRSC Urges Motorists to Obey Traffic Rules
The FRSC urged motorists and other road users to obey traffic regulations and cooperate with enforcement officers to promote road safety and prevent disruptions during lawful operations.
The Corps added that it would continue to combine public education, compliance monitoring and enforcement efforts in its drive to improve road safety.
