Arsenal have secured a major boost ahead of the new season as England forward Alessia Russo has signed a new long-term contract with the club, ending speculation about her future.
The 26-year-old striker, who joined from Manchester United in 2023, has become one of the most prolific and influential players in women’s football. Since her arrival, Russo has scored 36 goals in 72 appearances, quickly establishing herself as a fan favourite and a key figure in Arsenal’s attack.
“Arsenal feels like home,” Russo said after the deal was confirmed. “This club is truly special, and I have felt that way since I joined two years ago. Representing Arsenal is a privilege that has motivated me to grow and improve as a player, and I feel empowered wearing this badge.”
Russo’s impact has been undeniable. She was instrumental in Arsenal’s historic Champions League triumph in May, delivering standout performances on the biggest stage. Just two months later, she scored for England in the Euro 2025 final, helping the Lionesses successfully defend their title and further cementing her reputation as one of the top forwards in world football.
Her domestic form has been just as impressive. Last season, Russo netted 12 goals in 21 Women’s Super League appearances, earning a share of the Golden Boot alongside Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw. Her achievements also earned her a nomination for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, as well as selections in both the Professional Footballers’ Association Team of the Year and the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season.

Despite her success, Russo insists she is hungry for more. “I’m still eager for new achievements, and I know that feeling is shared by everyone at the club. I’m excited to kick off this season,” she added.
Arsenal head coach Renee Slegers described Russo as “a vital member of our team,” praising her not only for her goals but also for her work ethic and influence off the pitch. “While her goals often grab attention, Alessia contributes so much more to our squad. She is a selfless player who works incredibly hard for the team and enhances our team culture,” Slegers said.
Russo’s new contract is a clear signal of Arsenal’s ambition to remain at the top of women’s football, with the Gunners determined to build on last season’s success. With one of the best forwards in the world committing her future to North London, fans are already dreaming of more silverware in the years to come.
