Former Super Eagles and West Brom forward Brown Ideye has officially declared his retirement from professional football.
The Nigerian international played 24 matches for West Brom from 2014 to 2015, netting four goals during his time there.
This marks the end of a nearly two-decade career that took him across England, Ukraine, Spain, Greece, China, and several other countries.
Ideye, who was part of Nigeria’s successful squad that clinched the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title in South Africa, shared his decision on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
In his social media posts, Ideye expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported his football journey:
“After much reflection and with mixed emotions, I have decided to retire from professional football,” Ideye stated.
“I want to first thank God for the talent and the long career I have enjoyed.
“I also appreciate my family and friends for their constant love, support, and understanding throughout the years.”
The 36-year-old striker acknowledged the contributions of agents, coaches, teammates, and journalists who played a part in his achievements.

He also sent a special message to Nigerian fans, saying: “Thank you, Nigeria, for the chance to wear the national colors and be part of the Super Eagles.
“Although my time as a professional player has ended, football will always remain a part of my life as I embark on my next chapter.”
Ideye earned 28 caps for the Super Eagles between 2010 and 2016, scoring six goals.
His most notable achievement came during the 2013 AFCON, where he helped Stephen Keshi’s team secure Nigeria’s third continental title.
He also participated in the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil later that year and was part of the squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
At the club level, Ideye began his career in Nigeria with Bayelsa United and Ocean Boys before moving abroad.
He played in France with Sochaux, found success in Ukraine with Dynamo Kyiv, and later joined England, where he scored four Premier League goals for West Bromwich Albion.
The striker also played for Olympiacos, Tianjin Teda, Málaga, and Aris Thessaloniki before returning to Nigeria for a brief period with Enyimba.
Ideye’s last official match took place in May 2025 during an NPFL game between Enyimba and Plateau United in Aba.
Following his retirement, Ideye is expected to remain involved in football in different roles, having recently taken on a player development position with Atlantic Business FC in Nigeria’s TCC League.
