The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede has urged the Executive Director of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Mark Okoye, to focus on uplifting the South East region.

He emphasized the importance of harnessing the region’s market strengths to promote its growth while fulfilling the needs of its people.

Olukoyede made these remarks in Abuja during a meeting with the SEDC management at the EFCC headquarters on Tuesday.

He expressed the Commission’s commitment to supporting SEDC’s efforts, assuring them that they would provide resources and guidance to help fulfill their mission.

He praised the President for establishing various regional development bodies, which he believes are crucial for encouraging local growth.

“It’s important for regions to utilize their own resources and potentials,” he said. He promised that the EFCC would work alongside SEDC to help bring the South East into the spotlight, attract investments, and boost the local economy.

Additionally, Olukoyede offered to assist SEDC with tools to manage risks and ensure proper operations. “We will help you avoid pitfalls while you work to achieve your goals. Just let us know in writing what you need, and we’ll provide our support,” he added.

In his address, the SEDC director explained that the purpose of their visit was to foster partnerships and engage with various stakeholders for support.

He praised Olukoyede for revitalizing the fight against corruption within the EFCC and noted that this was an exciting time for their efforts.

“This is our 130th day in office, and we are looking for strong collaboration to effectively serve the people. Our goal is to promote recovery and development in the South East after many years of challenges,” he stated.

The SEDC director expressed gratitude to the President for approving their establishment after several decades of waiting and shared their ambitions for the region. He mentioned several initiatives aimed at making the South East a vibrant hub for business and investment, highlighting programs designed to stimulate growth and innovation.

“We aspire to set a high standard as leaders in this effort and need your support to maintain integrity as we move forward,” he concluded.
