ZOSA national body pays condolence visit to Omu family in Igbide

The Zik Old Students Association (ZOSA) national body has paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Major General Paul Ufuoma Omu at his country home in Igbide, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Major General Omu, a distinguished alumnus of Zik Grammar School, Sapele, was a revered military officer, former military governor and statesman.

The high-powered ZOSA delegation was led by Chief Capt. Tony Onoharigho, the National Vice President, who represented the National President, Prof. Hope Eghagha.

Other notable members of the delegation included the National Secretary, DCC Austin Ekele (rtd), Benson Arayi (National Legal Adviser), Pst. Augustine Okoro (Financial Secretary), as well as branch chairmen and other national officers.

According to the statement issued by the group on Thursday, the Omu family warmly received the team, with Mr. Sese Omu, Executive Assistant on Project Monitoring to the Delta State Government and son of the late general, leading the host group.

Also present were members of the Omu family, the President General of the Igbide community, Venerable Augustine Ovie, his Vice, Chris Ukulebu, and the Anglican Church, represented by Venerable Dr. J.E. Ekaike.

A formal letter of condolence was presented to the family, and the ZOSA team signed the condolence register.

In his response, Mr. Sese Omu expressed gratitude for the visit, acknowledging his father’s strong ties to ZOSA and assuring the association of further communication as burial plans progress.

The statement reads in part: “Members of the National Association of Zik Grammar School, Sapele, were recently at the home of the late Major General Paul Omu, an old student of the school, on a condolence visit to the family.

“The team, which was led by the National Vice-President, Chief Capt Tony Onoharigho (who stood in for the President, Prof. Hope Eghagha) had in attendance the National Secretary, DCC Austin Ekele Rtd, Chairmen of Warri and Sapele Branches, the National Legal Adviser, Benson Arayi, the Financial Secretary, Pst Augustine Okoro, and other national officers/ members of the National Body.

“The team was received by Mr. Sese Omu, Executive Assistant on Project Monitoring to the Delta State Government, son of the late General, members of the immediate family of late Chief Omu, Community leaders including the PG of Igbide Community, Venerable Augustine Ovie, his Vice, Hon. Chris Ukulebu and the Anglican Church, as represented by Ven.Dr. JE Ekaike.

“After the welcome formalities, introduction and kolanuts presentation, the leader of the ZOSA deligation, Chief Onoharigho formally consoled with the Omu family and the Igbide community over the passage of the General saying his good works and deeds speaks volumes. He informed the gathering of the Association plan to play a role in the burial activities as a mark of honour to a departed alumni.

“Thereafter, a letter of condolence was presented to the family. In response, Mr Sese Omu was appreciative of the visit as it gladdens their heart to know that their patriarch was a valuable member of ZOSA. He promised to get in touch with the association as preparation for the burial commences.

“The ZOSA team later signed the Condolence Register and took photographs with those present before departing.”
