The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into Mr. Sunny Ndidi Enujeke, a former aide to ex-Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, over allegations of misappropriating Three Hundred Million Naira (₦300,000,000.00).
The funds, allocated by the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) for capacity-building programs benefiting oil-producing communities, were reportedly handed to Enujeke between September and November 2024 while he served as chairman of the Oil and Gas Host Communities (HOSTCOM) in Delta State.
However, rather than executing the training programs, Enujeke allegedly diverted the money for personal use, including constructing a private duplex in Udu and distributing portions of the funds among associates. Outraged HOSTCOM members filed a petition with the EFCC on January 9, 2025, calling for a thorough investigation.
Following the petition, the EFCC summoned Enujeke and his associates. On April 3, 2025, he appeared before the anti-graft agency in Port Harcourt, where he remains in custody as investigations continue. The EFCC has yet to release an official statement on potential legal actions against him or his alleged accomplices.
In a related development, the Delta State chapter of HOSTCOM has suspended Mr. Enujeke indefinitely amid mounting allegations of financial mismanagement. The decision was communicated in an official petition dated April 2, 2025, addressed to the National President of HOSTCOM, Dr. Benjamin Taraumiebi Style.
The petition accused Enujeke of running HOSTCOM like his “personal property,” violating the association’s constitution by failing to ensure transparency and accountability.
Investigations reveal that out of an approved N525 million allocation for HOSTCOM, which included N100 million for human capacity building, N200 million for vehicle procurement, and N75 million for the renovation of the secretariat, Enujeke allegedly declared only N375 million instead of N525 million. Further reports indicate that he received N300 million from DESOPADEC but has been unable to account for its expenditure.

According to the petition, DESOPADEC Chairman Chief John Nani confirmed at a December 3, 2024, meeting that the commission had released N300 million to HOSTCOM. However, Enujeke allegedly misused a significant portion of the money, spending less than N40 million on actual projects while failing to account for the remaining N60 million meant for human capacity development.
Additionally, allegations surfaced that Enujeke has been engaging in unauthorized financial transactions using the organization’s account and has refused to disclose details regarding a monthly impress of N500,000 from DESOPADEC, which has accumulated to approximately N13 million since September 2022.
In response to these allegations, the HOSTCOM Delta State chapter has moved to suspend Enujeke indefinitely and install the Vice Chairman as Acting Chairman. The petition stated that all official dealings with Enujeke should cease immediately and called on the National President to take urgent action to restore order and credibility to the organization.
Meanwhile, the EFCC and other anti-graft agencies continue their investigations, with sources indicating that Enujeke may face prosecution if found guilty. The case has sparked widespread debate on corruption in public office, and stakeholders are calling for stricter oversight to prevent the mismanagement of funds meant for community development.
