Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has officially resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), citing deep-seated divisions and internal conflicts within the party.

In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 8, Anioma North LGA, Delta State, Senator Nwoko expressed his disappointment over the growing factionalism in the party, which he said has made it difficult to unite and advance the collective interests of the people.

“My decision to resign is first and foremost due to the deep divisions and factionalization within the party. This fragmentation has made it increasingly difficult to foster unity and advance the collective interests of our people,” he stated.

The senator highlighted an incident on January 29, where top PDP functionaries engaged in physical altercations due to unresolved internal disputes. He described the situation as “irreconcilable,” further justifying his decision to step away from the party.

Nwoko, who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriations and Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Sports Development, acknowledged the role PDP played in his political career, particularly providing him a platform to contest the 2022/2023 senatorial election.

However, he expressed frustration that the current party structure in Delta State has hindered his ability to fulfill campaign promises to his constituents.

“During my campaign, I made solemn and actionable promises to my constituents—commitments I take seriously as a servant of the people. Regrettably, the current structure of the party in our state has not been conducive to realizing these promises,” Nwoko stated.

Despite his resignation, the senator reaffirmed his commitment to the people of Delta North, pledging to continue working for the progress and prosperity of the state and the nation.

“I assure all party members and my constituents of my unwavering dedication to statesmanship, unity, and the advancement of Delta North,” he concluded.

Senator Nwoko’s departure from the PDP is expected to have significant political implications in Delta State, particularly as the 2027 general elections approach. It remains unclear whether he plans to join another party or pursue his political ambitions as an independent candidate.
