Luton Town FC has bolstered its defensive lineup with the signing of Congo international Christ Makosso from Belgian club RWD Molenbeek. The 20-year-old centre-back joins the Hatters for an undisclosed fee, becoming the club’s first acquisition of the January transfer window.
Makosso, who made 11 appearances for Molenbeek this season, is regarded as a rising talent in European football. His journey to prominence began when he moved to France to join Sochaux before transferring to Molenbeek in January 2023.
Luton Town manager Rob Edwards expressed his excitement over the signing, praising Makosso’s potential and athleticism.
“Christ is a young and athletic defender who has caught the eye of our recruitment team. We believe he has a bright future ahead of him. While we’ll need patience as he continues to develop, he’s an exciting prospect who fits perfectly into our style of play moving forward,” Edwards stated.
Makosso’s arrival is part of Luton’s efforts to strengthen their squad as they aim to climb the Championship table. Despite signing experienced Dutch defender Erik Pieters on a short-term deal in December, Pieters has yet to feature for the first team. Makosso’s addition signals the club’s commitment to both immediate results and long-term growth.
Luton Town ended 2024 in 19th place in the Championship, just four points above the relegation zone. The club’s management hopes that Makosso’s presence will help solidify their defense and contribute to a successful campaign.

In his first statement as a Luton player, Makosso expressed enthusiasm about joining the club and its passionate fanbase.
“I’m really excited to be joining Luton. I’ve heard so many positive things about the club and its amazing fans. I can’t wait to get started and help the team achieve its goals,” said the young defender.
While the length of Makosso’s contract remains undisclosed, his signing reflects Luton Town’s strategic approach in the transfer window. As the January market unfolds, fans can expect more moves as the club works to improve its performance and secure its place in the Championship.
This signing marks a significant step for Luton Town, with Makosso poised to make an impact both now and in the future.
