The Swiss Federation has pledged a donation of €1.2 million to the Borno State Flood Disaster Relief Fund.
Swiss action, as gathered by our correspondent, is aimed at providing critical assistance to victims of the devastating floods that struck the state on September 10, 2024.
The announcement was made by the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Nicolas Lang, during a sympathy visit to the State on Wednesday.
In his statement, Ambassador Lang emphasized Switzerland’s ongoing commitment to supporting Borno State.
“This donation, along with the previous contribution of $700,000 in 2023 to the Borno Model, underscores Switzerland’s solidarity with the people of Borno affected by crises,” he said.
The Borno model program was said to have been designed to facilitate the reintegration of former Boko Haram insurgents and civilians caught in conflict zones.

“On behalf of the people of Borno, I extend our sincere appreciation to the Swiss Government for their generous donation. We will ensure that the funds are judiciously utilized,” he said.
The contribution, as stated by some of the government officials who spoke with our reporter, further strengthens the ties between Switzerland and Borno State, building on previous humanitarian efforts.
Ambassador Lang was observed to have been accompanied by Nicolas Martin-Achard, Senior Humanitarian Advisor, and Florent Geel, Senior Political Advisor at the Swiss embassy.
