Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has fired back at critics accusing her of exploiting the marital crisis involving Yul Edochie and his estranged wife, May Yul-Edochie, to gain social media relevance.

Rita, who has been an outspoken supporter of May amid the highly publicised family dispute, addressed the allegations in a fiery Instagram post on Saturday, August 22, 2026.

The veteran actress admitted that her association with May had contributed to the growth of her social media presence but insisted that she had no shame in acknowledging it.

According to Rita, May’s “beautiful grace” gave her platform an extra push, but she rejected the suggestion that the controversy was solely responsible for her online relevance.

She wrote: “Yes, I will proudly tell you that I used Queen May’s beautiful grace to grow my page. And what exactly is wrong with that?”

Rita challenged those questioning her motives to look through her social media history, insisting that she had built a name for herself long before the controversy surrounding Yul, May and Judy Austin.

“I have been on social media. I have been visible. I have been relevant. I have been creating moments and building my audience long before this particular moment ever started,” she stated.

However, Rita did not stop there. She took a swipe at those who, according to her, were attempting to give another person credit for the growth of her platform.

The actress argued that acknowledging May’s influence was more honourable than attributing her success to someone she described in highly disparaging terms.

Rita said she considered it an insult to her years of hard work for anyone to claim that her entire social media presence was built around the ongoing marital controversy.

“Don’t just open your mouth because you want to talk. The history is there for everybody to see,” she declared.

She further maintained that May remained an important part of her journey and proudly described her as “Queen May,” making it clear that she had no intention of distancing herself from the embattled mother of three.

Rita’s comments are likely to generate fresh debate online, particularly because of her unusually blunt response to those questioning whether her continued defence of May is driven by loyalty, personal conviction or social media engagement.

The actress has consistently thrown her weight behind May since the controversy surrounding Yul Edochie’s marriage intensified, while the family drama has continued to attract widespread attention and heated reactions on social media.
