The Adamawa State Government has approved ₦855 million for the construction of four new hostel blocks at the Nigerian Law School’s Yola campus. The decision was made during the 13th State Executive Council meeting of 2024 and was presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri with the aim of addressing the growing accommodation needs of law students in the region.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, James Iliya, announced that the project, valued at ₦855,247,976.81, has been awarded to three construction firms: SISILAR Investment General Contract Ltd, NUR-Structural Aluminium and Steel Engineering, and AB & LA Project Ltd. The construction will cater to both male and female students and is expected to be completed within 12 weeks.

The Nigeria Law School in Yola, established in 2013, serves as the only law school in the North East region. Since its inception, the campus has seen rapid growth, with the student population rising from 250 to around 350. This surge has created a pressing need for expanded accommodation facilities. The new hostels will significantly improve living conditions for students, many of whom currently struggle to find housing outside the campus.

“The construction of these hostels will help alleviate the accommodation challenges faced by students and ensure they have a conducive environment for their studies,” said Abdullahi Prambe, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development. He also noted that the state government had previously provided potable water to the campus as part of its continuous support for the institution.

The new hostel blocks will enhance the overall student experience at the Yola campus, giving students easier access to academic resources and a better quality of life. This investment underscores the state government’s commitment to supporting legal education in the North East and ensuring that students are well accommodated as they pursue their legal training.

As the construction kicks off, expectations are high that the new hostels will be ready within the projected time frame, helping to ease the accommodation crisis and offering a more comfortable campus environment for current and future students.
