The Chairman of the special task force committee overseeing the suspension of mining activities in Taraba State, retired General Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa, has called on the Council chairman of Karim-lamido, Bitrus Danjos, to establish a local security committee.
He said if established, the security committee, would assist in curbing the illicit activities of illegal miners within the council.
He made the call during an advocacy visit on Wednesday to the Chief of Wurkun and the council’s leadership.
Faransa emphasized the task force’s extensive efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of illegal mining across all sixteen local government areas.
He urged the council leadership not to waver in supporting the task force and the state governor’s collective efforts to thwart illegal mining.
Highlighting Governor Agbu Kefas’s commitment to empowering the task force in eliminating illegal mining, Faransa assured that the task force would spare no effort in fulfilling its mandate.

The task force, according to him, was entrusted with enforcing executive orders three and five, which suspended mining activities and wood logging in the state.
He stressed the need for internal control mechanisms, urging the local government council to establish a local security committee to effectively address the challenges posed by illegal miners.
In response, the council chairman of Karim Lamido, represented by Vice Chairman Isa Musa, pledged the council’s dedication to ensuring the state’s executive order suspending mining activities is implemented in the area.
Also on his part, the Chief of Wurkun, Yakubu Haruna Kirim, expressed commitment to uniting the people of the area. He acknowledged the governor’s directive to suspend mining activities and promised to work diligently for the peace and development of the region.
