The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed about 329,865.585 kilogrammes of assorted illicit drugs and psychotropic substances seized in Lagos, with an estimated street value of N301.058 billion.

Key Highlights

  • NDLEA destroys 329,865kg illicit drugs
  • Drugs valued at N301 billion
  • Lagos accounts for major seizures
  • Cocaine and cannabis destroyed
  • NDLEA targets drug trafficking

The public destruction exercise was overseen on Monday by the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd.), who said the drugs comprised seizures from concluded cases and abandoned consignments that had been permanently removed from circulation.

According to Marwa, the NDLEA Lagos Strategic Command accounted for 246,864.535 kilogrammes of the drugs seized between April 2025 and May 2026.

He said the remaining 83,001.05 kilogrammes were recovered by the agency’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Tin Can, Apapa, Marine and Central Intelligence and Investigation Team (CITF) commands, all operating in Lagos.

The destroyed substances included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, cannabis varieties such as Canadian Loud and skunk, ephedrine, tramadol, codeine syrup, other opioids and khat leaves.

Marwa said the destruction represented more than the loss of illicit commodities to drug traffickers, stressing that the action would prevent the substances from reaching Nigerian communities.

“That is over N301 billion that will never find its way into the pockets of drug barons or into the ruining of a single Nigerian home,” he said.

The NDLEA chairman noted that the significance of the exercise could not be measured by the monetary value of the drugs alone, as every kilogramme removed from circulation represented a potential threat averted.

He linked illicit drug abuse to addiction, broken families, drug-related crimes and road crashes caused by impaired driving.

Marwa reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to disrupting the activities of drug traffickers and preventing dangerous substances from reaching young Nigerians and communities across the country.
