Former Secretary-General of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Hon Sani Toro has regained freedom from the hands of his abductors.

Toro, who was kidnapped on his way from Abuja after attending the wedding of the son of former NFF President Alhaji Aminu Magari, was released, a source revealed according to a Vanguard report.

The source revealed that there was a negotiation with the kidnappers, who demanded a ransom of about N150m but reduced it to N30m. According to the source in the Bauchi State Sports Council, who pleaded anonymity with Vanguard, he is neither aware of how much was paid nor if a ransom was paid.

As on Monday, the source had hoped the former NFF scribe would be released on the night of Tuesday or Wednesday after the ransom was reduced. “Insha Allah things are under control. Negotiation is on, God willing, this issue will soon be over,” the source said according to Yusuf Busari.

“The ransom has come down to N30m from N150m. Hopefully, by tomorrow (today) or next, things shall be concluded yesterday,” the source added. The Trumpet gathered that the former Assistant Coach of the Super Eagles, Garba Yila, who was kidnapped alongside Toro, also regained freedom.

Corroborating the report of the release, the Bauchi State Police Command on Tuesday morning has confirmed the release of the duo.

Although the command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who made the confirmation, never gave any clue if a ransom was paid for their release.
