Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Sylvester Alabi condemns in its entirety acts of some persons taking laws into their hands by meting out instant justice on perceived enemies of the society.

The Police Commissioner spoke while parading some suspected killers of a sound engineer, David Sunday, who was mistaken for a ritualist. Sunday was said to have been lynched and set ablaze in Lekki, Lagos State.

The CP also paraded three notorious gun runners, who were allegedly supplying arms and ammunition to robbers and kidnappers operating within the South-West axis of the State. The Trumpet Gathered

The visibly angry Police boss said the law will deal decisively with whoever was caught involved in jungle justice without reporting the incident to the Police.

Alabi said a total of six persons including a lady had been arrested in connection with the murder and setting ablaze of Sunday. Adding that investigations were still on to arrest more people connected with the gruesome death.

He said, “On 12th of May, 2022, at about 0630hrs, at Studio 24, Lekki, Lagos, an okada rider by name Dahiru ‘m’ had a quarrel with his passengers by the name Frank Olatunji ‘m’ and Philip Balogun ‘m’ over the bike fare.

“In the heat of the argument, Frank Olatunji and Philip Balogun invited the one David Sunday ‘m’ to mediate only for Dahiru and his cohorts to violently attack him, kill him, and set him ablaze.

“A total of six suspects have been arrested namely Dahiru Ayuba ‘m’, Susan Moses ‘f’, Christopher Dauda ‘m’, Joseph Tella ‘m’, Chigozie Anthony ‘m’, Sunday Azi ‘m’. Suspects will be charged to court after investigation.”

Parading the three suspects along with 22 others who, according to him had committed different crimes including murder and arson, Alabi hinted that the arrest of the gun runners followed a complaint of misplaced luggage by one Aji Augustine, a resident of Ibeju Lekki.

According to him, the complaint alleged that he went to receive some food items which were sent to him by his mother from Cross River State through a driver, adding that the driver of the bus mistakenly gave him (Augustine) a sack that was meant to be delivered to someone else.

“The complaint alleged that when he opened the sack, he discovered seven locally made pistols and not food items as expected,” he added.

The Commissioner of Police further revealed that the complainant quickly rushed to the nearest police division and handed over the arms to the police. The CP said upon receipt of the case, detectives embarked on a diligent investigation that led to the arrest of one Joseph Ashiwobel, who dispatched the sack from Calabar to Lagos.

“During interrogation, he confessed that he had sold many guns to his customers here in Lagos and he led operatives to arrest two of his buyers, Rasheed Ogunbade, 39, and Aladeokin Ahmad, 38.

“Also, one locally made shotgun bought from Joseph Ashiwobel was recovered. Investigation is still ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects in order to recover more of the guns he had sold to people in Lagos,” Alabi stated.
