How VDM and Davido Became Friends
Recounting how their relationship began, VDM said Davido followed him on social media, after which they became friendly, exchanged direct messages and stayed in contact.
According to VDM, he regularly supported Davido’s music by promoting releases but did not ask the singer for personal favours.
He said his view of the relationship changed in 2025 after he came across a WhatsApp group conversation that he alleged involved actress Iyabo Ojo, Tonto Dikeh, musician Samklef, producer K-Solo and members of Davido’s DMW crew.
VDM alleged that the conversation included discussion about efforts to secure his arrest in 2024 because of his questions and participation in the campaign demanding justice for Mohbad. He said the discovery shocked him, especially because he had interacted freely with some of the people he believed were connected to the discussion.
VDM also referred to his previous detention and said the possibility that people he considered friends were involved in efforts to have him arrested made the situation more painful.
Why VDM Tried to Contact Davido
After the alleged discovery, VDM said he made several attempts to reach Davido to ask whether the singer knew about the WhatsApp discussions and why members of his entourage would allegedly be involved.
He said Davido did not answer his calls. VDM further alleged that blogger Cutie Juls later published a post suggesting that he had been trying unsuccessfully to reach the singer.
He said some people who reacted to the post accused him of trying to record Davido’s voice for possible blackmail. VDM dismissed that suggestion, saying he wanted an explanation from someone he believed had been a friend.
VDM Says He Ended His Friendship With Davido
VDM described the situation as a painful betrayal, saying he was disappointed by what he viewed as a contradiction between his friendship with Davido and the alleged actions of people in the singer’s circle.
He said he eventually sent Davido a message telling him that he no longer wanted to maintain the friendship. VDM recalled telling the singer they would no longer exchange greetings or act as though they knew one another if they met in public.
He accused Davido of maintaining a brotherly relationship with him while members of the singer’s crew were allegedly involved in efforts to harm him. Davido’s response to the accusations was not included in VDM’s account.
Mohbad’s Death and the Campaign for Justice
Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, died on September 12, 2023, aged 27. His death prompted public calls for answers and a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding it.
VDM became one of the prominent voices in the online campaign, frequently raising questions and demanding accountability. The claims about the WhatsApp group and the alleged involvement of Davido’s associates remain allegations by VDM. The people named and Davido were not given a response in the account provided.
