Super Eagles Drop Four Places
The latest FIFA ranking represents a setback for Chelle’s team, which was ranked 26th in the previous update.
Nigeria’s decline follows a mixed run of results during the latest international window, with the Super Eagles recording one victory, one defeat and one draw.
The results were not enough to preserve Nigeria’s position among Africa’s top-ranked football nations.
Nigeria Slips to Sixth in Africa
The Super Eagles have also dropped from fourth to sixth position in Africa.
Algeria climbed to 28th globally to take fourth place on the continent, while Côte d’Ivoire moved into fifth at 29th in the world.
Nigeria now occupies sixth place in Africa and 30th globally.
The top 10 African teams are:
- Morocco – 7th globally
- Senegal – 18th
- Egypt – 25th
- Algeria – 28th
- Côte d’Ivoire – 29th
- Nigeria – 30th
- DR Congo
- Cameroon

Mixed Results Hurt Super Eagles
Nigeria opened the latest international window with a positive result, defeating Madagascar 2-1 in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
However, the Super Eagles suffered a major setback in their next fixture after losing 3-0 to Guinea-Bissau.
Chelle’s side then travelled to Russia for an international friendly and produced an impressive comeback, recovering from a two-goal deficit to draw 3-3 in Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday.
Despite avoiding another defeat against Russia, the combination of results was insufficient to prevent Nigeria from losing ground in the FIFA standings.
