  • The incident reportedly occurred on September 22, 2026, at Oloba Village, Lagelu LGA, Ibadan.
  • Police identified the suspects as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward.
  • The suspects allegedly robbed the family of ₦200,000 cash, a Boxer motorcycle and other equipment.
  • Police said the victims were attacked with a locally made Dane gun, cutlasses and a club.
  • The remains of the wife have been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to recover the other victims.

Three Suspects Arrested Over Ibadan Family Killing

According to the Oyo State Police Command, the suspects were arrested after the command received intelligence on Friday, October 2, concerning the attack, which allegedly occurred on September 22 at about 7 p.m.

Police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed the arrests in a statement issued on October 6.

The suspects were identified as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward, all residents of Oloba Village.

Police Detail How Family Was Attacked

Preliminary investigation, according to the police, indicated that the suspects allegedly invaded the home of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children.

The command said the suspects were armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club during the alleged attack.

Police further alleged that the attackers stole ₦200,000, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with a chainsaw and a spraying machine from the family.

Six Family Members Allegedly Killed

The police said the robbery allegedly turned deadly after Hammed Akinbami shot the husband, while Ojo and Edward allegedly attacked the wife on the head.

According to the police statement, two of the children were subsequently tied by their hands and legs and thrown into a nearby river.

The command further alleged that the remaining members of the family were killed and their bodies dumped in the same river.

The serious allegations have not been independently verified and remain subject to police investigation and any subsequent court proceedings.

Police Recover Weapons, Family’s Motorcycle

Detectives who visited the scene reportedly recovered the family’s Boxer motorcycle, the locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club.

The three suspects were subsequently arrested and, according to the police, confessed during interrogation to their alleged involvement in the incident.

Police said the remains of the wife have been recovered, while efforts are continuing to locate and recover the bodies of the other victims allegedly thrown into the river.

Case Transferred for Further Investigation

The Oyo State Police Command said the suspects and case file would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The command’s investigation is expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged robbery and killings and establish the individual roles of the suspects.

The allegations against the suspects remain unproven at this stage, and they are entitled to due process until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
