NDC Denies Dickson Working With APC
In a statement dated October 5 and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC said Dickson was not acting as a representative or front for the ruling APC.
The party said the former Bayelsa State governor had “no secret or open deal whatsoever” with the APC, which it described in strong terms in the statement.
Director said the party would ordinarily have ignored the allegations as “beer-parlour talk,” but decided to respond because repeated claims, if left unchallenged, could eventually be accepted as facts.
Party Defends Seriake Dickson’s Political Record
The NDC publicity secretary argued that Dickson’s record in public service did not support claims that he would secretly work against his own party.
The party said anyone familiar with Dickson’s political career would not associate him with an alleged arrangement designed to sabotage the NDC, Peter Obi or Rabiu Kwankwaso.
According to the statement, Dickson could have joined the APC but instead chose to take what the NDC described as the “hard, honourable path” of helping to build a political party with like-minded politicians.
Director also cited Dickson’s more than seven years in the Senate as evidence of what the party described as consistency in public service.
The NDC described the allegations against its national leader as “wicked, vexatious and mendacious.”
NDC Blames Political Opponents for Allegations
The party attributed the allegations to political opponents it said were uncomfortable with what it described as the growing popularity and acceptance of the NDC.
The NDC urged its members and supporters to remain focused on the party’s 2027 presidential ticket involving Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
It also called on members to support other candidates contesting elections under the party’s platform.
The party described itself as the largest opposition and fastest-growing political party in Nigeria, while reiterating its slogan: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”

Dickson, Obi-Kwankwaso Movement Had Earlier Disagreement
The latest denial comes against the backdrop of an earlier disagreement within the opposition political camp over the structure of the 2027 presidential campaign.
In September, Dickson warned support groups against establishing structures that could compete with the official machinery of the NDC.
The warning followed the announcement by the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement of a 59-member presidential campaign council.
The NDC subsequently disowned the council.
Peter Obi later said the council had not been established with his approval and agreed that support groups should work in support of the party rather than replace its official structures.
The movement, however, maintained that it would not surrender its identity or structures.
The NDC has since stated that Obi and Kwankwaso were authorised to nominate key officers of the official campaign council in consultation with the party leadership.
NDC Faces Fresh Questions Over Dickson’s Alleged APC Link
The allegation that Dickson is working with the APC is not entirely new.
In May, an NDC spokesman also denied reports alleging that the former Bayelsa governor was acting as a political operative or “mercenary” for President Bola Tinubu and the ruling APC.
The latest allegations remain claims that have not been substantiated publicly.
The NDC’s October 5 statement did not identify the individuals behind the allegations, while no public evidence of an agreement between Dickson and the APC was presented alongside the claims.
For now, the party maintains that Seriake Dickson remains committed to the NDC and its political programme ahead of the 2027 elections.
