Dr. Hadiya Usman, died on Friday, while her twin sister, Dr. Aidah Usman, a pharmacist, passed away on Sunday.
Their deaths have brought particular grief to their mother, Dr. Hadiza Usman, a former chief medical director of the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, who is now faced with the loss of both daughters.
The tragedy has also been felt beyond the immediate family, as the sisters’ deaths represent a loss to the medical profession and the wider community they served.
Buni Sends Delegation To Console Family
Yobe State Governor, Mai Buni, described the deaths as a painful and devastating loss, particularly because the sisters passed away within such a short period of each other.
In a condolence message, the governor extended his sympathies to their mother, immediate family members, friends, colleagues and the people of Nguru.
Buni also demonstrated the seriousness with which his administration viewed the tragedy by sending a high-powered delegation to Nguru to personally convey his condolences to the bereaved family.
The delegation included the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Abba Idriss Adam; Commissioner for Health, Muhammad Lawan Gana; Alhaji Abubakar Salihu Bakabe, Permanent Member of the Independent National Electoral Commission; the Chairman of Nguru Local Government Council; the APC Chairman in Nguru Local Government; and the Focal Person on Inter-Party Affairs.

A Loss To The Medical Profession
For the medical community, the deaths of Hadiya and Aidah have also underscored the loss of two professionals who had pursued different but related paths in healthcare.
While Hadiya served as a medical doctor, Aidah practised as a pharmacist, giving the sisters a shared connection to the healthcare profession even as they followed different professional routes.
Governor Buni prayed that Almighty Allah would forgive the deceased sisters and grant them eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus.
He also prayed for strength and fortitude for their mother and other members of the family to bear what he described as an irreparable loss.
For a family that welcomed the twins together, their deaths just two days apart have now created a painful chapter of bereavement—one in which the loss of one sister was followed almost immediately by the loss of the other.
