Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has urged FCT residents to use the 2027 general elections to choose leaders who will sustain and expand ongoing infrastructure projects across the territory.
Wike made the call in his Independence Day message to FCT residents on Thursday, October 1, 2026, as Nigeria marked its 66th anniversary of independence. He said the FCT Administration remained committed to developing Abuja as a modern capital while extending infrastructure and public services to communities across the territory.

Wike Highlights FCT Infrastructure Projects
According to Wike, the FCT Administration has invested in roads, public transportation, healthcare and education, with a focus on extending development beyond the city centre to communities across the six area councils.
He said several road networks connecting Abuja with satellite communities had been upgraded, alongside drainage systems and solar streetlights on some routes.
Wike also highlighted the construction of ultramodern bus terminals in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, with similar facilities planned for Kuje, Bwari and Gwagwalada.
He said a healthy and educated population remained essential to sustainable development.
Wike Calls for Continuity After 2027 Elections
Wike urged residents to view the forthcoming elections as an opportunity to choose leaders who would continue infrastructure development in the FCT.
“My dear residents, as the nation prepares for the forthcoming general elections in January 2027, I enjoin you all to see it as an opportunity to vote in progressive, visionary leaders that will sustain and expand the infrastructural revolution that has commenced in the FCT,” he said.
The minister also urged residents to remain law-abiding, support development initiatives and protect public infrastructure from vandalism.

Abuja as Symbol of National Unity
Wike described the Federal Capital Territory as an important symbol of Nigeria’s unity, noting that Abuja brings together people from different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds.
He urged residents to contribute to maintaining the cleanliness, orderliness and security of the capital.
The minister’s comments came as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike Has Linked FCT Projects to 2027 Politics
Wike has in recent weeks repeatedly linked infrastructure delivery in the FCT to the political choices residents will make in 2027.
During inspections of road projects in September, the minister said residents would be able to assess the administration based on projects delivered across the territory. He also announced plans to lead President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 campaign teams in the FCT and Rivers State.
Recent projects highlighted by the minister include the Apo-Karshi and Bwari-Kubwa roads, as well as the Kuje-Gwagwalada road. Wike has said some of the projects are expected to be completed before the end of 2026.
Wike’s latest Independence Day message therefore combines his administration’s infrastructure priorities with a call for continuity in the FCT, while his separate political comments have explicitly connected the projects to support for Tinubu and other candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
