The Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt has sent a message of solidarity and hope to the victims of the flood ravaging parts of the state.

A statement dated September 29, 2026, signed by the Apostolic Administrator, Most Reverend Patrick Eluke, said that available information reveals that some Rev. Father’s houses, churches, businesses, houses and environs are flooded, while goods and properties are destroyed.
He added that a lot of people are displaced and seeking temporary means of accommodation and feeding.
While acknowledging the pain and frustration occasioned by the development, the church assured the victims that they are not forgotten as it will continue to identify with their pain and remain united with them in prayer and support.

The church urged members to be conscious of our common humanity and social responsibility to care for one another, especially those affected by the flood.
“Thus, I invite everyone to go beyond sympathy and to move into concrete action that alleviates suffering and restores hope.
“Let everyone see what he or she can do to provide support to victims of the flood. Together through our acts of kindness and generosity, the victims of the flood will be reassured that God has not abandoned them,” the church admonished.
The statement concluded by reassuring the flood victims of the church’s prayers and practical support.
