The Upper Chamber approved the extension on Tuesday following the consideration and passage of a bill seeking to amend the 2025 Appropriation Act.
The bill, sponsored by Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, seeks to extend the implementation of the capital component of the 2025 Appropriation Act from September 30, 2026, to December 31, 2026.
Presenting the lead debate on the general principles of the bill, Bamidele said the amendment was necessary because the implementation of capital projects under the 2025 budget had not reached optimal levels.

He said the extension would provide additional time for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to execute approved capital projects.
Bamidele described the rationale for the amendment as both compelling and pragmatic, noting that funds had been released to MDAs for the execution of projects.
The Senate Leader subsequently presented Senate Bill 1067, titled: “A Bill for an Act to Amend the Appropriations (Repeal & Enactment) Act 2025 to Extend the Implementation of the Capital Aspect of the Appropriations (Repeal & Enactment) Act 2025 from 30th September, 2026 to 31st December, 2026 and for Other Related Matters, 2026.”
The Senate considered the bill clause by clause before approving the extension.
The latest extension means the capital component of the 2025 budget will remain available for implementation until December 31, 2026.
