Women and girls living with Vesico-Vaginal Fistula (VVF) and Recto-Vaginal Fistula (RVF) in Taraba State are set to receive free medical assessment, treatment and surgery as the Evangel VVF Centre of Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos, announces a special outreach programme in Jalingo.
The week-long intervention, scheduled to run from October 11 to 18, 2026, is expected to provide relief to women who have endured the physical and social consequences associated with fistula and related childbirth injuries.

The programme is aimed at expanding access to specialised fistula care, particularly for women and girls who may face financial, geographical or other barriers to obtaining the required medical and surgical treatment.
In a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday in Jalingo, the Programme Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of the Evangel VVF Centre, Gwong Ayuba, said the outreach would offer free surgical treatment and other medical services to affected women.
According to him, the centre has been providing free surgical treatment and related medical care to women suffering from VVF and RVF for more than three decades.
Fistula can result in the involuntary leakage of urine or stool, a condition that can have serious physical, emotional and social consequences for affected women and girls.
The centre therefore urged women experiencing involuntary leakage of urine or stool not to remain in isolation but to come forward for medical assessment during the outreach.

The programme will take place at the GMCN Hospital, formerly known as the UMCN Hospital in Jalingo.
The organisers called on affected women and girls across Taraba State and neighbouring communities to take advantage of the opportunity and present themselves for examination and appropriate treatment.
