The Delta State Police Command has arrested the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Kingsley Ashibogwu, alongside three other suspects in connection with the alleged murder of Mr. Unity Adeda, a deputy director in the Ministry of Secondary Education.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, September 28, 2026, confirming that five persons are currently in police custody in connection with the case.
“The Delta State Police Command, in continuation of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education, has taken into custody the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, alongside three other suspects in connection with the case.
“This brings the number of persons currently in Police custody in connection with the investigation to five,” Edafe stated.
According to the police spokesperson, the command has intensified efforts to apprehend the two other suspects, whose presence is required to advance the investigation.

Edafe further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Samuel Erale, had directed the fleeing suspects to surrender themselves to the police without further delay.
The police commissioner assured the deceased’s family and members of the public that the investigation would be conducted professionally and without prejudice, stressing that anyone found culpable would face prosecution in accordance with the law.
The arrests are coming amid mounting public outrage and demand for justice following Adeda’s death after an alleged confrontation at the Ministry of Secondary Education in Asaba.
The deceased’s family had earlier demanded the arrest of Ashibogwu and other persons allegedly connected with the incident, while rejecting the eight-member administrative panel of inquiry constituted by the state government.
The family had questioned the independence of the panel, demanding the inclusion of representatives of the deceased’s relatives, civil society organisations and human rights groups to ensure a credible investigation.
The police command, while extending its condolences to the bereaved family, maintained that investigations were ongoing.
No charges or findings of criminal responsibility against the suspects were announced in Monday’s statement.
