The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has won the 2026 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council Football Tournament, defeating the National Institute for Sports (NIS) 3-0 in the final in Abuja, while Customs Comptroller-General, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, received an honour for his support for media development and partnership.

Nigeria Customs Beat NIS 3-0 to Win NUJ FCT Trophy
The Nigeria Customs Service produced a dominant performance at the Area 3 Football Pitch in Abuja to defeat the National Institute for Sports 3-0 in the final of the competition.
Customs captain Mikail Abubakar gave his side the lead before Familola Fatai doubled the advantage in the second half.
Femi Omodara later added the third goal to complete a convincing victory for the Customs team.
Abubakar Wins Top Scorer and MVP Awards
Abubakar capped his impressive campaign by finishing as the tournament’s highest goalscorer with five goals.
The Customs captain was also named the Most Valuable Player of the competition after playing a key role in his team’s successful campaign.
His performance helped Customs maintain its unbeaten record throughout the one-week tournament.

Charles Ahur Named Best Goalkeeper
Customs goalkeeper Charles Ahur was named the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper following a series of strong performances.
Ahur played a particularly important role in Customs’ semi-final victory over the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), where he saved two penalty kicks.
His performance helped the Customs side secure a place in the final before completing the tournament with victory over NIS.
Customs Complete Tournament Without Defeat
The Nigeria Customs Service won all five matches played during the competition and finished the tournament without suffering a defeat.
The unbeaten run culminated in the 3-0 victory over NIS in the final, securing the NUJ FCT Football Tournament trophy for the Customs team.
Adeniyi Honoured for Media Partnership
The sporting success came alongside the recognition of Customs Comptroller-General, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, as the NUJ FCT Development and Media Partnership Patron.
Adeniyi was represented at the ceremony by the Head of Sports, Nigeria Customs Service, Samuel Onikeku.
The honour recognised Adeniyi’s contributions to the development of the NUJ FCT Council and his support for media partnership initiatives.
Eight Teams Participated in NUJ FCT Tournament
Eight teams participated in the 2026 NUJ FCT Council Football Tournament.
They included the NUJ FCT Council, Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Air Force, NDLEA, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the FCT Football Coaches Association.
The tournament organising committee, led by Comrade Ndubueze Chidoka, commended the participating teams, sponsors and partners for contributing to the successful staging of the one-week competition.
