Technology company itel has warned that it will consider legal action against anyone who deliberately creates or circulates fabricated content aimed at damaging the reputation of the company or misleading consumers about its products.

Key Highlights

  • itel has denied a viral AI-generated image claiming an itel Power Tank exploded after overcharging.
  • The company warned it would pursue legal action against deliberate fabrication of content meant to damage its brand.
  • The image originated from an X user identified as Enori, who later deleted the post and apologised.
  • Enori admitted the image and scenario were entirely AI-generated and accepted responsibility for the confusion caused.
  • itel says the Power Tank uses lithium iron phosphate batteries with multiple built-in safety mechanisms.
  • No verified report has confirmed an itel Power Tank was involved in any explosion.

The warning followed the circulation of an artificial intelligence-generated image on social media which falsely suggested that an itel Power Tank had exploded.

The image was accompanied by a claim that the portable power station had reportedly exploded after being overcharged. itel subsequently denied the claim and identified the image as fabricated.

In a statement shared on X on Wednesday, the company said while it welcomes genuine criticism and feedback from customers, it would not tolerate the deliberate use of manipulated materials to spread misinformation about its products.

“At itel, we value our customers and appreciate every form of constructive criticism and feedback. Your opinions help us improve, and we remain committed to listening and addressing genuine concerns.

“However, we will not stand by while individuals use AI-generated images or other misleading content to spread false information, discredit our brand, or deliberately tarnish our reputation.”

itel Warns Of Legal Action

The company said it was prepared to take appropriate measures to protect its customers and reputation from misleading claims.

It added, “We take such actions seriously and wish to make it clear that any deliberate attempt to misrepresent itel through fabricated content, manipulated materials or malicious false claims shall attract appropriate legal action.

“We will pursue all appropriate legal remedies where necessary to protect our brand, our customers, and our reputation.”

How The Claim Spread

The controversy can be traced to a post by an X user identified as Enori, who uploaded the AI-generated image and presented it as evidence of an itel Power Tank explosion.

The post gained attention before the user removed it from the platform and issued an apology.

Enori later admitted that the image and the scenario shown in the post had been created entirely with artificial intelligence. The user also acknowledged that the claim was false and accepted responsibility for the misinformation and confusion it generated.

Following the development, itel Energy and associated accounts urged social media users not to continue sharing the fabricated material, stressing that the image did not show a genuine incident involving an itel Power Tank.

About The itel Power Tank

The itel Power Tank is a portable power station designed to provide backup electricity to users during power outages.

According to the product information, the power station uses lithium iron phosphate batteries and incorporates several safety mechanisms, including battery management, over-temperature protection, over-voltage protection, overload protection and short-circuit protection.

No verified report has established that an itel Power Tank was involved in the explosion depicted in the viral image.

The incident has nevertheless highlighted the potential for AI-generated images and fabricated digital content to create false narratives around products and companies, particularly when such material is shared without verification. Follow us on X for more technology updates.
