The Yobe State government has unveiled its investment and development agenda at the 2026 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), seeking strategic partnerships and foreign investments in agriculture, renewable energy, mining, healthcare and youth development.

The initiative was disclosed in a statement signed by Mamman Mohammed, Director-General, Press and Media Affairs to Governor Mai Buni.

Representing Governor Buni at the global gathering, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mohammed Goje, said the state is using the UNGA platform to showcase its economic potential and attract investors capable of supporting sustainable development in the state.

Governor Buni said the international engagement would enable Yobe State to present its natural resources, strategic location and youthful population as assets capable of driving employment, investment and sustainable economic growth.

He said the state had approximately 1.6 million hectares of arable land, abundant livestock resources and significant production of sesame and gum arabic, while its proximity to Niger, Chad and the wider Sahelian region provided access to regional markets.

According to him, specific opportunities being presented to investors include soybean production, four completed sesame processing factories and a modern livestock hub aimed at formalising and expanding the livestock economy in Potiskum, Buni Yadi, Geidam, Garin Alkali and other major livestock markets.

Buni added that the state’s investment drive is supported by a legal framework designed to provide protection and coordination for investors through public-private partnerships.

He said the Yobe State Public-Private Partnership Law, 2023, provides the framework, while the Yobe State Agency for Public-Private Partnership and Investment Promotion serves as the coordinating window for investors.

On the sidelines of the UNGA, the Yobe delegation also held discussions with African industrialist Aliko Dangote at the Unstoppable Africa Forum on possible partnerships and investments in productive assets and professionally managed portfolios.

The proposed initiatives, according to Buni, are aimed at generating sustainable income for widows, women and victims of conflict and helping vulnerable citizens transition from short-term interventions to sustainable economic independence.

The delegation also engaged the United Nations Youth Office on initiatives to connect young people in Yobe with funding opportunities, internships, professional networks, technology and platforms for enterprise development.

The discussions, the statement said, included possible participation by Yobe youths in a United Nations Youth Town Hall in Heidelberg, Germany, as well as a proposed youth-development boot camp focusing on education, skills acquisition, enterprise and youth inclusion.

The Goje-led delegation , according to the statement, further participated in the Accra Reset launch of A Sovereign Future for Health, alongside former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama.

The engagement focused on African ownership of health systems, domestic financing and stronger institutional capacity.

The state government said the discussions aligned with its efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, expand services, develop the health workforce and rebuild Yobe’s health system following years of insurgency.

The delegation also participated in an African Union-European Union dialogue on Youth, Peace and Security, where it contributed to discussions on the Bujumbura Outcomes, generational leadership and meaningful youth participation in peacebuilding and governance.
