The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a man, Idris Mohammed, before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja, over an alleged N6.85 million fraud involving a Toyota Camry.

Mohammed was arraigned by the EFCC Abuja Zonal Directorate on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, before Justice A.M. Abdullahi on a one-count charge bordering on criminal misappropriation and obtaining money by false pretence.

The commission alleged that Mohammed collected N6.85 million from Ampatech Nigeria Limited between June 10 and 13, 2026, for the purchase of a black Toyota Camry but allegedly failed to deliver the vehicle or refund the money.

Key Highlights:

  • EFCC arraigned Idris Mohammed over alleged N6.85m Toyota Camry fraud.

  • He allegedly collected the money but failed to deliver the car or refund it.

  • Mohammed pleaded not guilty to the charge.

  • He was remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre.

  • Trial begins September 24, 2026.

According to the EFCC, Mohammed dishonestly converted the money to his personal use despite the purpose for which it was paid.

The alleged offence contravenes Sections 308 and 309 of the Penal Code Law of the Federal Capital Territory.

When the charge was read to him, Mohammed pleaded not guilty. Following his plea, EFCC counsel, G.G. Gajere, asked the court to allow the prosecution to commence trial.

However, defence counsel, Ibrahim Jibril, informed the court that he has filed a bail application and served the prosecution. He also made an oral application seeking the defendant’s release on bail.

After listening to arguments from both parties, Justice Abdullahi adjourned the matter until September 24, 2026, for commencement of trial.

The judge ordered that Mohammed be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.

The defendant’s arrest followed a petition submitted to the EFCC by Mohammed Ahmed Patigi of Ampatech Nigeria Limited.

The petitioner alleged that Mohammed collected N6.85 million from the company for the purchase of the Toyota Camry but failed to provide the vehicle or return the money.

The case will come up again on September 24 for trial.
