Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has assured the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum of his administration’s continued support for initiatives aimed at promoting grassroots development across the region.
Fintiri gave the assurance when members of the forum paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Yola, as part of activities marking the forum’s second tri-annual meeting hosted by Adamawa State.
The governor commended the governors’ wives for their various interventions and development projects across their respective states, noting that such initiatives had helped to reach communities and vulnerable groups that government could not always reach directly.
He said the collective efforts of the forum were important to the broader objective of building a better Nigeria, stressing that the vision of making the country a model for other nations required the support and participation of all stakeholders.

Fintiri also acknowledged the significant roles played by governors’ wives in supporting their husbands and contributing to governance, describing their offices as important institutions that should not be undermined.
According to him, governors’ wives often serve as trusted advisers to their husbands and have a unique understanding of issues affecting women, children and vulnerable members of society.
While wishing the forum a successful deliberation, the governor urged its members to focus on critical issues affecting women and children in Northern Nigeria, particularly poverty, education, healthcare and economic empowerment.
Earlier, the Chairperson of the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum and wife of the Gombe State Governor, Asma’u Yahaya, said the delegation is in the state for the forum’s second tri-annual meeting and had visited the governor to express solidarity with and support for his administration.
Asma’u said the forum, comprising the wives of governors from northern states, has undertaken various interventions, including the provision of boreholes, support for women-owned businesses and distribution of relief materials to vulnerable communities.
She described the governors’ wives as mothers and partners in development, adding that their primary responsibility was to support their husbands while contributing positively to the wellbeing of their communities.
The chairperson commended Governor Fintiri for his administration’s development efforts in Adamawa State and celebrated the state’s First Lady, Lami Fintiri, for her initiatives, particularly the renovation of the labour and neonatal complex at the Specialist Hospital.
She said the forum has as part of activities marking the International Day of Charity, brought a “mother’s token” for women in the state.
Asma’u sought the partnership of the Adamawa State government in areas including women and youth empowerment, agriculture and healthcare.
She also assured Governor Fintiri of the forum’s continued prayers, cooperation and support towards the development of Adamawa State.
The chairperson further extended the forum’s condolences to the governor over the death of former governor of the defunct Gongola State and elder statesman, Bamanga Tukur.
