Nigerians have dug up an old video showing Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, praising the achievements of former Governor of the state, Peter Obi, triggering a fresh wave of controversy and fierce reactions.

Key Highlights

  • An old video of Charles Soludo praising Peter Obi has resurfaced online, sparking fresh controversy.
  • In the footage, Soludo, then an APGA governorship candidate, credited Obi with implementing the party’s manifesto and constructing roads in Anambra.
  • Soludo also cited an alleged decline in the state’s poverty rate from 53% to 14.8% under Obi.
  • He reportedly said Anambra recorded the lowest unemployment rate in Nigeria at 13% during Obi’s tenure.
  • The resurfaced video has triggered mixed reactions from Nigerians on X, with some accusing Soludo of changing his position on Obi.

The video, which began circulating widely on September 15, shows Soludo speaking as an APGA governorship candidate and crediting Obi with implementing the party’s manifesto, constructing roads and recording improvements in the state’s poverty and unemployment figures.

In the footage, Soludo reportedly said: “Peter Obi did relatively well as an APGA governor, he did the roads. Anambra State had poverty rate decline from 53% to 14.8% under Peter Obi. Anambra State had the lowest unemployment in Nigeria at 13%.”

The resurfaced remarks have generated heated reactions, with some Nigerians accusing Soludo of changing his narrative on Obi since becoming governor, while others argued that the old video should be viewed in its political context.

One X user, @Emexkristo, wrote: “That video was a cut and join video. Soludo praised Obi and Obiano. He hailed Obiano for reducing poverty rate and unemployment rate in Anambra State. Soludo lauded Obi for implementing the APGA manifesto and for constructing roads”.

Another user, @graciphy, attacked the governor, writing “Professor of FOOLISHNESS. How can someone claim to be an egg head in economics, yet he is at war with figures. No wonder he is one of the worst CBN governors in Nigerian history.”

@DueNorthx also criticised Soludo, saying: “Used P.O to campaign and not he’s governor, he continues to attack him. Evil somebody.”

Reacting to the controversy, @DrEzeSunnyUdeh wrote: **“#babyOku Snr. spoke the truth but @officialABAT is making him speak gibberish. How do we rescue this irritant Prof turned Gov from pure hate mongering? Anyway, @PeterObi is the next President of Nigeria come 2027”**

Another X user, @DrChrisOfoegbu, said: “That name, gives this prof orgasms. So obsessed. Never a day without mentioning it”

The backlash continued as @mcpsalmy wrote: **“This man is a mess… a blatant failure. He was singing an riding on another man’s achievements.

“Now, will Anambra vote APGA again with his own records? He is messing up the state yet fighting a record he can never in a 20th term meet.”

@NzekKarysma asked“imagine someone who is so jealous of Obi that he ascribed all of Obi’s achievement to APGA manifesto, that Obi implemented APGA’s manifesto but he has the same manifesto now and cannot replicate it so shameful.”

In another reaction, @OjotoAfrica described Soludo as “a walking monument to mediocrity with a PhD in pure, concentrated stupidity”

@jarotechnology wrote: “A man who betrays his own blood or kinsman can never be trusted by an outsider.”

Meanwhile, @MrHumble26said: “I thank God say na same Anambra man they drag his fellow kings man everydayjust to pull him down, Anambra are the main reason Ala Igbo never develop they frustrate every good thing coming to Ala Igbo.

“It must be them or they scatter it, some times i don’t really blame dave umahi”

@HydroproTech wrote: **“No difference between bwala,Reno, Wike etc and now Soludo… Always speaking from both sides of the mouth”

@ceaserCFC recalled: “The same person that said they are still paying obi and obiano’s debt”

@gozzyp04 wrote: “One day the best of us will rule the rest of us. For now God keep exposing all these demons”

Also reacting, @KvngAdinoyi said: **“Nigerians can be very complicated and hypocritical all at the same time. They shout, hold your leaders accountable! every day, but the moment you try to do exactly that by criticising…”

Another user, @BabaOkafor, began his reaction by saying: “Soludo said this with his own mouth. The same people who spent years telling us Obi did nothing in Anambra should…”

The resurfaced footage comes amid renewed political tension surrounding Obi and Soludo, with the governor’s past comments now being compared with his more recent criticism of the former Anambra governor.

The debate has consequently shifted beyond the video itself, with Nigerians questioning whether Soludo’s assessment of Obi’s record has changed because of political circumstances or whether the two positions can be reconciled based on the different contexts in which they were made.
