The Action Peoples Party (APP) has announced the defection of two serving members of the House of Representatives and a former federal lawmaker, in a move expected to strengthen its political structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Two Serving Reps Join APP
According to a statement issued on Monday by APP chieftain and member of the House of Representatives, Ikenga Ugochinyere, the lawmakers who joined the party are Boma Goodhead, representing Akuku-Toru/Asari-Toru Federal Constituency of Rivers State, and Alozie Munachim Ikechi, representing Obingwa/Ugwunagbo/Osisioma Federal Constituency of Abia State.
The third defector, Uju Kingsley Chima, is a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Oguta/Ohaji-Egbema/Oru West Federal Constituency of Imo State.

The APP said the three lawmakers were listed among the Independent National Electoral Commission’s final candidates for the 2027 National Assembly elections on its platform.
“The Action Peoples Party has recorded a fresh boost ahead of the 2027 general elections with the defection of two serving members of the House of Representatives and a former federal lawmaker to the party,” the statement said.
It added that Goodhead and Ikechi are serving members of the House, while Chima is seeking a return to the National Assembly under the APP.
Ugochinyere Welcomes Defectors
Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato North and South Federal Constituency of Imo State, described the development as a major addition to the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Welcoming the lawmakers, he described the APP as a platform for politicians seeking a departure from what he called the old approach to politics and governance.
“APP is a political home for independent-minded, new-generation politicians seeking to change old ways for a new way that is dominated by the people’s interests,” Ugochinyere stated.
The statement said the party was “excited to have great democratic fighters in its ranks”, adding that the defections reflected the need for politicians and political parties to reposition themselves and expand their structures beyond traditional strongholds.
Goodhead Was Disqualified From APC Primary
The latest defection comes months after Goodhead was disqualified from participating in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in May 2026, effectively denying her a return ticket under the party.
Ikechi Served on Labour Party Committee
Ikechi was also previously associated with the Labour Party. According to a report in March 2026, he was among the 46-member Congress and Convention Committee constituted to oversee the party’s membership re-registration exercise.
Chima Survived Alleged Assassination Attempt
Chima, a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party in Imo State, was reportedly the target of an alleged assassination attempt in February 2023.
The PDP had described the incident at the time as an attempt by armed agents in the state to assassinate the former lawmaker.
The latest defections come as political parties intensify preparations, alliances and candidate positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
