Nigerian investment platform Bamboo reportedly experienced disruptions on Monday, September 14, 2026, as a surge of retail investors attempted to subscribe to the Dangote Refinery IPO shortly after the offer opened.

The much-anticipated public offering by Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals is attracting significant interest from retail investors, with 4.1 billion ordinary shares being offered at ₦525 per share.

Key Highlights

  • Investors reported difficulties accessing the Bamboo app during the Dangote Refinery IPO launch.
  • Some users said the platform was slow, failed to load or became inaccessible.
  • Similar complaints were reported on other digital investment platforms.
  • The Dangote Refinery IPO offers 4.1 billion shares at ₦525 each.
  • The minimum subscription is 10 shares, costing ₦5,250.
  • The subscription period runs until October 13, 2026.

Investors Rush Dangote Refinery Shares

The Dangote Refinery IPO opened for subscription on Monday, triggering strong interest among retail investors seeking to acquire shares in one of Nigeria’s largest industrial projects.

The minimum subscription of 10 shares, valued at ₦5,250, has been presented by the company as an opportunity for ordinary Nigerians to participate in the offering.

The low entry threshold appears to have contributed to widespread interest among retail investors.

Several users took to social media to report difficulties accessing Bamboo shortly after the offer opened.

One user wrote:

“Dangote Refinery IPO has finally crashed Bamboo.”

Other users reported long loading times, error messages and difficulties accessing their accounts.

Similar complaints were also reported by some users on other digital investment platforms, including Cowrywise and i-Invest.

Bamboo Prepared for Dangote Refinery IPO

Bamboo had promoted access to the Dangote Refinery IPO ahead of the subscription date, publishing information on how investors could apply through its platform.

The investment platform also highlighted zero commissions on the IPO and encouraged customers to prepare their accounts ahead of the opening date.

Bamboo is one of the digital investment platforms through which eligible investors can access the offer, alongside participating banks and other approved channels.

However, the reported difficulties on Monday raised questions about the ability of digital investment platforms to handle a sudden surge in demand during a major capital market event.

Retail Investors Drive Demand

The reported disruption highlights the growing participation of retail investors in Nigeria’s capital market.

The Dangote Refinery IPO has generated considerable attention because of the size and profile of the refinery, as well as the relatively low minimum investment required to participate.

The offering involves 4.1 billion ordinary shares priced at ₦525 each, with the subscription window running from September 14 to October 13, 2026.

The scale of investor interest provides a significant test for digital platforms that have become increasingly important channels for retail participation in Nigeria’s financial markets.

Investors Have More Time to Subscribe

As of the time of the initial reports, it was unclear how quickly all affected digital platforms would return to normal service.

Investors experiencing difficulties were advised to try again later and ensure that their accounts were properly funded and verified before submitting applications.

Investors can also use other approved channels available for the Dangote Refinery IPO, details of which are available on the Nigerian Exchange website.

The subscription period remains open until October 13, 2026, meaning investors affected by early access problems still have time to submit their applications.

Dangote Refinery Plans Major Expansion

Funds raised through the IPO are expected to support the refinery’s expansion programme.

The company plans to increase its total refining capacity to about 1.4 million barrels per day, subject to the completion of its planned expansion.

The Dangote Refinery IPO is therefore attracting attention not only because of its size, but also because of the potential implications for Nigeria’s energy industry and capital market.

The rush reported on digital investment platforms on the opening day illustrates the growing appetite among Nigerian retail investors for direct participation in major corporate offerings. For more updates, follow us on X.
