President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Musa Kida, has commended President Bola Tinubu for the prompt payment of financial rewards to members of the D’Tigress and their officials following their triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket.
Kida described the payment as a demonstration of the federal government’s commitment to sports development and the welfare of Nigerian athletes.
According to him, the timely disbursement of the rewards shows that the welfare of athletes remains a priority under the Tinubu administration.
He said the gesture would further motivate D’Tigress and other national teams to continue striving for excellence at continental and global competitions.
Reacting to the development, the captain of D’Tigress expressed the team’s appreciation to the President and other officials who supported their success.

“We are more than grateful to Mr. President, the First Lady, and the leadership of the National Sports Commission, led by the Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and the Director General, Bukola Olopade,” she said.
Kida also called on corporate organisations and other stakeholders to emulate the Federal Government by increasing their investment and support for Nigerian sports.
He stressed that sustained investment in basketball would be crucial to maintaining Nigeria’s dominance on the African continent.
The NBBF president reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to building on the success of D’Tigress, assuring that the team and the federation would continue working towards winning more honours for Nigeria and making the country proud.
