Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has suspended the Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Post Primary Schools Management Board, Mr. Birsan Penuel, over alleged irregularities in the discharge of his official responsibilities.

Key Highlights:

  • Governor Fintiri suspended the Post-Primary Schools Board boss over alleged irregularities.
  • The suspension will allow a thorough investigation.
  • The board’s most senior director will take over temporarily.
  • Fintiri said the move aims to improve transparency and education standards.
  • He warned public officers against misconduct and ignoring due process.

The suspension, according to a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, on Sunday, is to allow for a thorough investigation into the matter.

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the most senior director in the board has been directed to take over its affairs and ensure the uninterrupted continuation of its activities.

Governor Fintiri said the move is part of his administration’s commitment to sanitising and repositioning the education sector for improved service delivery.

The governor said measures implemented over the last seven years, including the recruitment of qualified teachers, rehabilitation and construction of classrooms, provision of instructional materials, and regular payment of salaries and allowances, had helped reverse negative trends in the sector.

Fintiri reiterated his determination to build a functional, effective and credible post-primary education system in Adamawa state.

“I will not look back in taking the necessary steps, no matter how tough, to protect the integrity of the system and ensure that our children receive the quality education they deserve,” the governor said.

He warned political appointees and public officers in the state to uphold due process, transparency and accountability in the discharge of their responsibilities.

“Any act that undermines the progress made in the education sector will be dealt with decisively,” Fintiri warned.
