Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has triggered controversy after launching a series of explosive attacks against his brother, Bello El-Rufai, on social media.
Bashir took to X on Saturday, August 29, where he questioned Bello’s political allegiance following his reported move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In one of the posts, Bashir accused his brother of abandoning Governor Uba Sani when the governor faced criticism, only to embrace “family loyalty” after his political interests were allegedly threatened.
“Stuck with Uba Sani until he realised he is being dumped then suddenly remembered family loyalty and moved to ADC. Where was he since?” Bashir wrote.
He further alleged that Bello had previously urged him to stop criticising Sani, accusing him of acting in his own political interest.
Bashir described his brother as hypocritical and questioned the timing of his alleged political realignment.
The series of posts, however, took a more disturbing turn when Bashir made several deeply personal comments about Bello, touching on issues involving his alleged lifestyle, mental health and family relationships.
He also made an allegation relating to the death of one of their siblings, although the claim could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report.
In another post, Bashir warned Bello against confronting him, declaring that he had moved beyond their relationship.
“I have outgrown you. I do not need you,” he wrote.
He subsequently made a statement that appeared threatening, saying: “Come for me and wallah one of us will end up dead and it won’t be me.”
It remains unclear whether Bashir intended the statement literally or made it in the heat of an ongoing family dispute.
The latest outburst has drawn attention to the increasingly public tensions surrounding the El-Rufai family, coming against the backdrop of political disagreements involving former governor Nasir El-Rufai, Governor Uba Sani and other political actors in Kaduna.

Bashir continued to question Bello’s political position, alleging that his brother’s decisions were motivated primarily by personal political interests.
“Purely serving his interest,” he wrote in another post.
The public confrontation has now moved beyond political differences, with Bashir making several personal accusations against his brother and issuing a statement that has raised concerns because of its apparent threat.
The development is likely to attract further attention as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As of the time of filing this report, Bello El-Rufai had yet to publicly respond to Bashir’s latest allegations and remarks.
