Troops conducting counter-terrorism operations in Adamawa State have killed 21 terrorists and destroyed a Boko Haram/ISWAP camp in Hong Local Government Area.

The operation was carried out on Thursday, August 27, 2026, around the Kopre Mountain general area following intelligence on the location of a terrorist hideout.
The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Capt. Mohammed Goni, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday.
According to Goni, the operation was conducted jointly by the Office of the National Security Adviser Tactical Team and newly inducted troops of 226 Battalion deployed to Sector 4, Adamawa.
He said the troops moved through the difficult terrain before launching a targeted assault on the terrorist enclave.
The operation formed part of wider military efforts to track down terrorists and rescue people abducted in recent attacks, including residents taken from Mussa community in May and schoolchildren reportedly kidnapped from Lassa in June.

Goni said the troops encountered the terrorists on two occasions during the operation, resulting in the death of 21 insurgents.
Several other terrorists reportedly escaped from the area with gunshot wounds.
After securing the location, the troops dismantled the camp and destroyed facilities and equipment believed to have been used by the terrorists to support their operations.
Among the items destroyed were motorcycles, bicycles and jerrycans containing Premium Motor Spirit, which the military said were being used to support the group’s movement and logistics.
The troops also recovered weapons and ammunition from the camp, including several AK-47 rifles, magazines and a large quantity of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The military said the successful operation had further weakened the terrorists’ ability to operate freely in the area and disrupted their logistics network.
Goni commended the troops and members of the ONSA Tactical Team for their professionalism, courage and coordination during the operation.
He said the armed forces would maintain intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling terrorist camps, disrupting their supply networks and rescuing victims of abduction across the North-East.
The military also assured residents that operations would continue until efforts to locate and rescue abducted persons are completed, while security agencies work towards restoring lasting peace in the region.
