The Presidency has clarified that the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council list has not been withdrawn despite criticism and controversy surrounding its composition.

Key Highlights

  • List not withdrawn: Presidency says the APC 2027 campaign council list remains valid.
  • Adjustments possible: Sunday Dare said changes may be made as additional structures are created.
  • Subcommittees pending: More APC members and political stakeholders could be included through yet-to-be-formed subcommittees.
  • No wholesale review: Dare described any changes as “adjustments,” not a complete review of the list.
  • Campaign preparations: The clarification comes as the APC intensifies preparations for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, made the clarification on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

Dare was responding to reports that the APC has withdrawn the campaign council list following reactions to the inclusion and exclusion of some prominent political figures, including the Nigeria Revenue Service boss and the minister of defence.

According to him, the list remains valid, although adjustments may be made as the party finalises the structure of the campaign council.

He explained that several subcommittees are yet to be constituted, which would allow more party members and political stakeholders to be included in the campaign structure.

“As it is with every other list, there’s a room for sub-committees. Those sub-committees have not been formed, and so many other names will come into that sub-committee,” Dare said.

He stressed that the APC has already dismissed reports that the list was withdrawn, adding that the party would only make necessary adjustments.

“So that list has not been withdrawn. The APC has issued a statement to that effect yesterday, that list stands. But of course, there will be adjustments. The list is not cast in stone, just like every other list,” the presidential aide said.

The APC had on Tuesday rejected reports that it had withdrawn its 2027 presidential campaign council list.

The list, announced over the weekend, named President Bola Tinubu as chairman, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serving as vice chairmen.

Former Zamfara State Governor and senator, Abdul’aziz Yari, was named director-General, while Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma was appognted secretary.

When asked whether the list was therefore open to review, Dare avoided the word “review”, insisting that any changes would simply be adjustments where necessary.

“Not a review, just adjustments where necessary,” he said.

Pressed further on whether the distinction suggested that the APC was reconsidering the composition of the council, the presidential aide said the changes would not amount to a wholesale overhaul.

“Review is wholesale, this is not wholesale,” Dare stated.

Dare further explained that the creation of additional subcommittees would provide room for more APC members and political stakeholders to participate in President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.

The clarification comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general election, with the APC already putting structures in place for Tinubu’s campaign.
