Former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has described the 2027 general elections as a major opportunity for Nigerians to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying opposition forces are eagerly awaiting the presidential and governorship polls.
Omo-Agege made the declaration on Tuesday, while speaking with journalists at Olomu in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, ahead of the state’s 35th anniversary on August 27.
He said the presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027, and the governorship election fixed for February 6, 2027, would provide Nigerians with an opportunity to decide the future direction of governance at both federal and state levels.
“We are urgently waiting for January 16 to get rid of the federal government and February 6 to get rid of the state government in 2027,” he said.
According to the former senator, the 2027 contest should not be viewed as a battle between individual politicians, but as a broader contest between Nigerians and the ruling APC.
“The 2027 election is going to be between the people of Nigeria versus APC,” Omo-Agege said.
“It is not Omo-Agege versus anybody, neither this other candidate versus anyone. It is the people of Nigeria versus APC, and we are determined to flush them out.”
He linked his position to what he described as worsening economic conditions, poor infrastructure and insecurity, particularly in Delta State.
Omo-Agege challenged Deltans to compare their present circumstances with those of four years ago, asking whether residents were actually better off.
“Are we better off today in Delta State than we were four years ago?” he asked.

He cited the sharp increase in the price of food, saying a bag of rice that sold for about N23,000 four years ago now costs about N120,000.
The former lawmaker also criticised the condition of roads across the state, using the Warri-Sapele route as an example.
“Four years ago, we could move from here to Sapele in 30 minutes. Today, it takes about five to six hours for that journey,” he said.
He questioned the emphasis on flyover projects while major roads connecting communities remain in poor condition.
“There is nothing wrong with flyovers to begin with, to the extent that those flyovers are located in locations that will address traffic congestion,” he said.
“But when you fly over down, what about the roads you’re going to be driving on?”
Omo-Agege said government should prioritise repairing and reconstructing existing roads rather than focusing exclusively on new projects.
“We’re not even looking for new roads right now. Just reconstruct or repair the existing roads,” he said.
On security, he said the situation had also deteriorated, expressing concern over cases of students being abducted and allegedly kept in captivity for extended periods.
“Four years ago, yes, there were challenges with insecurity. Today, it is even worse,” he said.
He consequently declared that the current government had failed the people. “This government has failed us,” Omo-Agege said.
His remarks add to the growing political rhetoric ahead of the 2027 elections, with opposition figures increasingly framing the polls as a referendum on the performance of the APC-led governments at the federal and state levels.
