Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged residents of Abuja, to uphold peace, unity, diversity and tolerance, which he described as the foundational values upon which the nation’s capital was established.
Wike made the call in his Eid-el-Maulud message to FCT residents on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as Muslims across the country commemorated the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
The minister said Abuja, was deliberately established as a symbol of unity and diversity, stressing the need for residents to reflect these values in their daily interactions.
He urged residents to embrace peaceful dialogue and avoid conflict when resolving interpersonal and community disputes.
Wike also called on residents to reflect on the teachings and virtues of Prophet Muhammad, particularly peace, compassion, sacrifice, patience, tolerance and fellowship.
According to him, the significance of Eid-el-Maulud goes beyond celebration, as residents are expected to demonstrate the moral values associated with the life and teachings of the Prophet.
“True celebration goes beyond festivities and requires living out the moral obligations taught by the Holy Prophet,” the minister said.
On security, Wike assured residents and visitors that the FCT Administration had put comprehensive measures in place to protect lives and property during the festive period.

The minister stressed that community safety was a shared responsibility between the government and the public.
Wike expressed hope that the spiritual lessons of Eid-el-Maulud would promote lasting peace in homes, progress in communities and economic prosperity across the FCT and Nigeria.
