The United States government has published the official list of 100 civics questions and answers that foreign nationals seeking American citizenship may be tested on during the naturalisation process.
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced the publication of the study material on Sunday as part of resources available to applicants preparing for the citizenship test.
The questions cover key areas of American civic life, including the US constitution, the system of government, the rights and responsibilities of citizens, American history, geography and national symbols.
During the naturalisation interview, applicants are required to answer six out of 10 civics questions correctly to pass the test.
Among the first three questions on the official list are: “What is the supreme law of the land?”, “What does the constitution do?” and “What are the first three words of the constitution?”

The answer to the third question is: “We the People,” a phrase that reflects the principle of self-government in the United States.
The remaining questions address various aspects of the country’s political system, history and civic responsibilities, including the roles of government institutions, important historical events and figures, and the rights and duties of American citizens.
USCIS has advised applicants preparing for the naturalisation process to study the complete list of questions and answers ahead of their interviews.
