The Concerned Rivers People (CRP) has accused former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Joy Nunieh, of holding alleged private meetings with Gabriel Pidomson and Dumo Lulu-Briggs over the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State.

Key Highlights

  • CRP alleges meetings were held at Nunieh’s residence.
  • Group claims another meeting was planned at Heliconia Park Hotel.
  • CRP says the alleged meetings will not derail the Rainbow Coalition.
  • The group provided no independent evidence to substantiate the allegations.

In a statement issued on Sunday, CRP Publicity Secretary, Sunny Nwagbo, alleged that the meetings were aimed at strategising against the Rainbow Coalition, which the group said enjoys considerable support among Rivers people.

According to Nwagbo, one of the alleged meetings took place at Nunieh’s residence and involved Pidomson and Lulu-Briggs.

“We are aware that another meeting is to hold at the Heliconia Park Hotel, Eastern Bypass,” the statement added.

CRP described the alleged activities as “backdoor politics” and insisted they would not undermine the coalition.

“Let it be known, the Rainbow Coalition has come to stay. These clandestine meetings and backdoor politics will not stop the will of the people,” the group said.

The organisation also criticised Nunieh over what it described as her failure to acknowledge past efforts by some individuals to support her during her tenure at the NDDC.

However, CRP did not provide independent evidence to substantiate its allegations concerning the meetings.

The development comes amid growing political realignments in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections, as political groups and emerging coalitions position themselves for the next electoral contest.
