The Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has approved the constitution of a high-powered panel to investigate allegations of misconduct against the acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the state’s Ministry of Justice, Abubakar Jungudo.
The approval was announced by the Head of the Civil Service, Prof. Mu’azu Shehu, who said the governor, after considering the nature and gravity of the allegations contained in a formal complaint, also directed the immediate suspension of the acting DPP pending the outcome of the investigation.
Prof. Shehu explained that the decision was taken in line with the principles of due process to ensure a fair, transparent and unhindered investigation into the allegations.
The investigative panel will be chaired by Justice Haruna Habila Kereng of the Gombe State High Court.
Other members of the panel include a director from the Ministry of Justice, a representative of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), a representative of the assistant inspector-general of police, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Gombe, and a representative of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The permanent secretary, establishment and service matters in the office of the head of the civil service, will serve as secretary of the panel.
According to the head of the civil service, the panel has been directed to commence work immediately.
Its mandate includes investigating the allegations, examining all relevant facts and evidence, and submitting its findings and recommendations to the governor through the office of the head of the civil service.
The state government said the measures are aimed at ensuring due process and preserving the integrity of the investigative process.
