ECOWAS specialized agencies working on the Water-Energy-Food Nexus have strengthened their collaborative framework through a series of strategic engagements aimed at advancing sustainable development across West Africa.
The initiative focuses on delivering coordinated solutions in key areas, including women’s economic empowerment, sustainable agriculture, access to water and solar energy, and enhanced institutional cooperation among member agencies.
According to ECOWAS, recent meetings held in Côte d’Ivoire and Togo provided an opportunity for participating agencies to agree on joint projects designed to improve livelihoods and promote regional integration.

The collaborative efforts were also highlighted during the CCDG Gender Focal Points Meeting held in Accra, Ghana, where stakeholders underscored the initiative’s contribution to the ECOWAS gender agenda and broader regional development objectives.
The regional bloc noted that the partnership, which has expanded from five to eight specialized agencies, continues to champion integrated and gender-responsive programmes that create economic opportunities for women and young people across the sub-region.
ECOWAS said the strengthened collaboration reflects its commitment to fostering sustainable development through cross-sector partnerships while addressing critical challenges related to food security, energy access, and water sustainability in West Africa.
