President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod, has congratulated Nigeria’s Under-18 boys’ national volleyball team following their historic triumph at the 2026 African Nations U18 Boys Championship in Alexandria, Egypt.
Nigeria claimed its first continental title after producing a commanding display to defeat host nation Egypt 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-14) in Wednesday’s final.
The victory not only earned the young Nigerians their maiden African championship but also secured qualification for the 2027 FIVB Boys’ U19 Volleyball World Championship, with the tournament serving as Africa’s qualifying event.
Reacting to the achievement on Thursday, Nimrod described the success as the outcome of years of deliberate investment in grassroots volleyball development across the country.
According to him, the federation’s long-term commitment to discovering, nurturing and developing young talents is beginning to produce tangible results on the international stage.
“This achievement is the reward for years of consistent investment in grassroots volleyball. It shows that our development strategy is producing the desired results,” Nimrod said.
He expressed confidence that the players’ impressive performances throughout the tournament would attract the attention of clubs within Africa and beyond, opening doors to professional careers for many members of the championship-winning squad.
The NVBF president noted that the exposure gained from competing at continental level would provide the young athletes with valuable opportunities to further develop their careers.
Nimrod also commended the federation’s board members, coaching crew, players and every stakeholder whose contributions made the historic victory possible.

He reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to expanding youth development programmes and creating more opportunities for aspiring volleyball players across Nigeria.
The federation, he said, remains focused on strengthening the country’s talent pipeline to ensure sustained success at both continental and global competitions.
Looking ahead, Nimrod disclosed that preparations would now shift to Nigeria’s participation in the 2026 African Nations Championship, where the country’s senior men’s and women’s teams will compete for continental honours.
He expressed optimism that the U18 team’s breakthrough success would inspire more young Nigerians to embrace volleyball while enhancing Nigeria’s reputation as one of Africa’s emerging forces in the sport.
