The ₦1.05 trillion Kano Light Rail Project has moved closer to reality as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received a high-powered Federal Government delegation ahead of the official groundbreaking of one of Nigeria’s biggest transport infrastructure projects.

The delegation, comprising officials from the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) and construction giant Mota-Engil Nigeria, met the governor in Abuja to finalise preparations for the launch of the ambitious rail project.

According to a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, the delegation was led by Dr. Armstrong Takang of MOFI and Mota-Engil Nigeria Chairman, Mr. Kola Karim.

 

They briefed Governor Yusuf at the Kano State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, on the level of preparedness for the commencement of the landmark project.

 

The Kano Light Rail Project, recently approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is expected to revolutionise public transportation, reduce traffic congestion, improve connectivity and stimulate economic growth across Kano State.

Welcoming the delegation, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to partnering with the Federal Government and contractors to ensure the project is delivered successfully.

 

He described the light rail as a game-changing investment that will strengthen Kano’s position as Northern Nigeria’s commercial hub while providing residents with a modern, safe and efficient mass transit system.

 

Governor Yusuf also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for approving the project and commended Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, for providing the legislative support that helped make the project possible.
